Zero Accidents AI Challenge

Shaping the future together

The Abertis Foundation and "Beyond Roads | Abertis Innovation" continue their commitment to innovation through this global call.

We are looking to identify innovative solutions that combine satellite and vehicle data with Artificial Intelligence to transform traffic management and road safety.

THE CHALLENGE

How could we use AI with satellite and vehicle data to predict, prevent, and manage traffic accidents, thus moving closer to the Zero Accidents vision?

USE CASE 01

Solutions to predict and/or prevent accidents on our high-capacity roads.

The solutions must integrate the use of Data and AI for accident analysis, prediction, and prevention, covering the specified areas or other relevant ones, to enable the development of preventive interventions that ensure the safety of our team members:

  • Detect patterns that anticipate accidents
  • Implement early warning systems
  • Preemptively position highway maintenance teams
  • Improve predictive models using high-quality data and advanced AI algorithms
  • Optimize the planning of preventive interventions
  • Integrate continuous monitoring solutions
  • Develop predictive risk analysis tools
  • Develop autonomous systems for active infrastructure
USE CASE 02

Solutions for managing accidents that occur on our high-capacity roads.

The solutions should integrate the use of Data and AI to enhance accident management, enabling a faster and more effective response. They should support safer operations, covering both the specified areas and other relevant ones:

  • Reduce incident detection time
  • Minimize emergency response time
  • Optimize the routes and positioning of emergency teams
  • Minimize the impact on other road users

2023 WINNING SOLUTION: THE PILOT

Azisa & Aren

The award-winning project, jointly piloted by Azisa, based in Gijón, and Aren, located in New York, marks a milestone in infrastructure inspection. Azisa brings its expertise in drone-based inspection services, while Aren contributes its advanced AI technology applied to structural management.

The initiative will take place at the "Las Rosillas" Bridge on the RCO, between the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato, Mexico. This project aims to inspect the bridge using drones equipped with various sensors to model the structure and employ AI to identify, classify, and assess the criticality of different types of deterioration. The pilot, involving Abertis experts from Mexico, Chile, Spain, and Italy, will run from October 2024 to January 2025, providing end-to-end industrial inspection services through unmanned vehicles (drones, UGVs, ROVs, and USVs), as well as software tools that generate 2D and 3D data for analyzing damage to concrete and metal structures.

Full inspection by drone of the Rosillas Bridge on the border between the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato.
